Based in the historic district of Greenpoint, the Brooklyn Expo Center is a beacon of change taking over the neighborhood. With its modern glass exterior and an open floor plan – which can be used in whole or divided to create smaller hubs – this event space has almost chameleonic powers to accommodate any type of event from private functions to conventions and banquets for up to 2,200 people.
Popular among locals for fairly affordable housing, this area threads the needle between old Polish and Russian settlers, and a more recent influx of diverse young creatives. Filled with boutique clothing stores, such as the popular In God We Trust or pas mal, hip coffee shops and restaurants, it attracts affluent New Yorkers and experienced visitors who wander about after visiting the world-famous Peter Pan Donut Shop or partying at nearby House of Vans and Output nightclubs.
Next door is You & Yours Fine Vintage founded by renowned interior designer Allegra Muzzillo, featuring rare furniture, décor, and lighting pieces from the Mid Century through the 1970s eras. Due to impeccable curation, the shop is a popular destination among design enthusiasts. Around the corner is Academy Records offering new and secondhand vinyl and CDs. Across the street, Parisian-style cafe Le Gamin serves locally-sourced comfort food and is popular in the summer for its quaint backyard. Access is easy from Greenpoint Ave via G train, B32 bus or the East River Ferry.
