Woolwich’s main shopping street has lots of reminders of the suburb’s stately history—just look above the chain store fronts and you’ll see some lovely late Victorian and Art Deco architecture. Currently a furniture shop, this spacious open-plan showroom for rent has two storage rooms at the back.

THE CROWD

Crossrail is on its way and regeneration is rife, bringing in an influx of first-time buyers, young professionals and independent shops, bars and restaurants. Around the corner, Beresford Square Market attracts regular shoppers Monday through Saturday, while next-door’s Starbucks and the nearby Nando’s are busy from lunchtime and into the evening. However, this is Woolwich’s main high street shopping parade, so you’re going to see a steady stream of potential customers all week. Woolwich Arsenal station is five minutes’ walk away.

MEET THE NEIGHBOURS

There’s a little nugget of history a few doors down the road: Powis Street was the site of Britain’s first McDonald’s, and it’s still there today. High street staples such as Santander, EE and the ubiquitous JD Sports are all close-at- hand, but adding a little local colour is artFix, a popular café, creative hub and venue.
